Schuyler County Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Petfinder Foundation Kia Pet Adoption grant allowed us to offer adoptions at half price for a two-month period. Without this grant, many of our animals would likely not have found their forever homes as quickly as they did. Thank you, Petfinder Foundation and Kia!!

Kitten Runt, now named Ducky (first photo), was found abandoned with his three brothers in terrible condition. They were very young, and Runt was half the size of his brothers (second photo), weighing only 0.6 lbs.
It was apparent from the beginning that Runt was, unfortunately, blind. His eyes were being treated with antibiotics and he proved to be a little fighter.
After about a week, one of Runt’s eyes was about to rupture. He was rushed to the vet clinic for emergency surgery, which removed both of his eyes (third photo).
After his surgery, his recovery was miraculous! One of our volunteer families fell in love with him and his fighting spirit and decided they had to have him as part of their family (fourth photo). Runt is now well over two lbs. and as feisty as ever. He definitely doesn’t know he is blind and acts like a normal, mischievous kitten!
