pause4change: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant played a critical role in supporting pause4change’s care of the “Flower Litter,” a group of six puppies born on April 28, 2025, and their mother, Daisy. This litter required intensive nutritional support and comprehensive veterinary care to ensure both the health of the nursing mother and the long-term wellbeing of her puppies.

Grant funds were used to offset costs associated with Daisy’s specialized nutritional needs during lactation, as well as to support the puppies’ veterinary preparation for adoption. This included vaccinations, deworming, and spay/neuter surgeries, all of which are completed prior to adoption as part of pause4change’s standard care protocol. As is common in rescue work, veterinary costs significantly exceeded adoption fees, and this grant was essential in allowing us to provide a high standard of care without compromising our organization’s financial sustainability.

Thanks to this funding, pause4change was able to ensure that every puppy in the Flower Litter received appropriate medical care and was placed into a home healthy, vaccinated, and set up for long-term success.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Momma Daisy came into pause4change’s care pregnant and in need of extra support. After giving birth to her puppies (first photo), she required specialty food to stay healthy while nursing and caring for her litter. While her puppies were quickly adopted, Daisy herself struggled to find the right home.

She was first fostered by one of our board members and later moved on an emergency basis to another foster home. That unexpected move changed everything. Her new foster quickly fell in love with Daisy’s gentle, resilient nature — and soon realized she was already home.

Today, Momma Daisy has officially been adopted by her foster. She now enjoys the love, stability, and comfort she waited so patiently for, reminding us that every mom deserves a happy ending too.
