Humane Society of Marion County: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation Senior Pet Adoption Assistance grant helped senior siblings Tootsie and Eliza by providing essentials to aid in their adoption together. We were fortunate to find an adoptor who was kind enough to be willing to open her heart and home to both of these senior dogs, who had been together their entire life and are extremely bonded.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Please meet two sweet doggies, Tootsie and Eliza. These two came to us after their family could no longer care for them. They have been together their entire lives and are both 13 years old. We welcomed them into our all-volunteer shelter and gave them lots of love and attention.

Prior to the last home, their first owner went into a nursing home, so they have been in several homes in their lifetimes. They are siblings. They are nervous little ones and doggie coats comfort them. They came to us with absolutely no teeth and appear to have had them extracted, but we do not have the full history as to why they were extracted other than gum disease. The dogs have gum, eye, and skin issues. They were treated for fleas and ticks, dewormed, and completely vetted.

Eliza and Tootsie are very bonded and patiently waited for a home where they could be adopted together. Adopting any senior animal is rewarding, but unfortunately it can be costly, especially with two. We hoped to offer assistance with special food, supplies, and their adoption fee to help increase their chances of being adopted as a bonded pair into a furever home.

The Petfinder Foundation Senior Pet Adoption Assistance grant helped Tootsie and Eliza, who were adopted together to a wonderful lady who loves them very much. The grant made it possible for these senior cuties to each have a year’s worth of Sentinel Spectrum heartworm medication sent home with their adopter.

In addition, doggie coats to keep them warm in the winter, raised dog bowls, gum supplements, and a large amount of special dog food were sent home to them thanks to the Petfinder Foundation grant. These two sweeties are now in their furever home, where they are loved and cherished. Thank you, Petfinder Foundation!
