Humane Society of Marion County: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We are a small, all-volunteer animal shelter. Our cats live in a free-range cat facility after they are fully vetted and until they find furever homes. We needed some quality toys that would keep the cats entertained and enrich their environment. We were beyond thrilled when we received these a few days ago! They are so neat. There are light-up toys, feather toys, cat-nip toys, a little pop-up house, and more! The cats even enjoyed the box! These were sent quickly and all of the cats at the shelter are enjoying playing with them. Thank you so much!

These toys will help all of our current cat residents and many more to come. Enriching their lives with quality toys helps them with adoptions. The cats are definitely more relaxed and happy when they have fun and enriching toys to play with. Socialization is important, too, and many of the toys are interactive so our volunteers can play with the cats with the toys. The little gingerbread house was a big hit, too!

Moana, Prince Naveen, Shania Twainnn, Reba, and Neptune (first through fifth photos) are just a few of the cats who have already been enjoying the toys — especially the feather ones. They are still up for adoption and looking for their furever homes.

There are quite a few whom we rescued from a large outdoor colony who came to us very sick and are not quite ready for adoption, so they are not yet on Petfinder, but they too are engaging and having lots of fun with the Kong toys.
