Welcome Home Sanctuary: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kong grant will go to foster homes to help dogs that are pulled from shelters to help them decompress, especially the dogs who are sick. Toys like Kongs that are great for chewing are very importation to help dogs decompress. Especially during the hot summer months, the Kong can be frozen to provide relief from the heat as well as enrichment. All of our foster dogs really benefit from Kongs and they are a crucial tool for our fosters.

Cammy (first and second photos), a sweet female husky who was dumped at a shelter with mange, loves toys, and having a Kong helped her engage with her foster and new people and keeps her entertained on those hot summer days. You can meet Cammy here.

Reina, a scared, shut-down older Chow mix who was abandoned at a shelter (third photo), has learned to trust through playing. During the first week, she was very scared of the world, and having toys helped her come out of her shell (fourth and fifth photos). You can meet Reina here.
