Kitten Tales Rescue: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This year, as we have a number of older fosters, we chose to add some catification aspects to our house for enrichment. Specifically, we added a number of shelves and vertical-access seats for our fosters to enjoy. We did purchase adoption blankets, scratchers, a new cat tree, and a variety of other needed supplies for our cats and kittens to enjoy. We have had a number of shy cats find their forever homes since installing the new area, as we have seen a boost in confidence and ownership from our less-outgoing cats.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Bernard and Leia were some of our adopter-avoiding cats, but they were recently adopted together as a bonded pair. Leia (photos 1-4) was with our family for about three years prior to adoption; she was never an alpha personality and would typically hide when potential adopters visited.

We noticed that, after we installed the new cat shelves, she was much more present, even with just our family, and this led her to intentionally come out and meet adopters during meet-and-greets.

Bernard (photos 5-8) was terrified of getting adopted and would hide inside dressers or cabinets when adopters came to visit. Like Leia, he became more confident and was able to observe new adopters from a safe vantage point once we put up the new shelves. We are so happy these two found a wonderful forever home.
