How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed us to waive adoption fees and create an additional incentive for people to adopt a rabbit or guinea pig. We promoted this through our social media accounts, on our website, and in our shelter.

Within two weeks, the grant funds of $150 had been used! One guinea pig and four rabbits are now happily living in their forever homes.

We currently have a high number of rabbits and guinea pigs available for adoption, and we hope to find them all loving homes as quickly as possible. Each adoption helps create much-needed space in our shelter for new animals who are coming in as strays or owner-surrenders.

How many pets did this grant help?

This grant covered the adoption fees for five small mammals: Pudding, Ramen, Eleanor Rigby, Nico, and Sushi are are now enjoying life in their new homes!

Eleanor Rigby (first photo) was found as a stray by a good Samaritan and brought to PHS/SPCA. She came to us on Feb. 9, 2023.

As a juvenile female who came in with a male rabbit, she needed to undergo a period of monitoring and observation before her spay surgery. Once she was cleared by our veterinary staff to be spayed, she had her surgery and became available for adoption shortly after.

While waiting to find her forever family, Eleanor Rigby received affection and her favorite veggies as treats from our volunteers and staff.

On her 114th day in our care, Eleanor Rigby’s wish was granted and she gained a loving family and a forever home, and a bunny brother as well! They were introduced to each other during the adoption appointment (second photo) and got along great! Now in her new home, Eleanor Rigby continues to enjoy time with her new brother (third photo) and her human family.
