Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

It helps keep the dogs in our care comfortable and clean. The beds are off the ground and easy to clean up. While most of our dogs are only with us for a short time, some of our dogs stay with us for medical or behavioral care for longer periods. It is great to have them in nice surroundings.

How many pets did this grant help?

Around 100

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

It has been several months now since we rescued “the shy girls” from a commercial breeder. Tess (first photo), Addie (second photo), and April are some of the most severely traumatized dogs we have seen.

With much patience and gentle care, they have come so far. Tess’s fur all grew back in and she looks so beautiful now. All three have been spayed and their infections have cleared up.

Both Tess and Addie are doing so well on their leash walking, and little April doesn’t shake so much now when she sees people. She likes to follow along when we go for a walk and will even take five or six steps when we pick up her leash.

They are so very sweet and have made so much progress. They no longer have such fear and hopelessness in their eyes. They look forward to their visits with our volunteers. It is so rewarding to see them wag their tails and prance around the play yard!

As of this writing, Addie and Tess have just gone home with loving families. April is making progress every day and hoping that she too will go to a forever home soon.
