Colorado Feline Foster Rescue: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant from the Petfinder Foundation helped cover the costs of healing Osborne both physically and mentally. He is now living in his forever home with a very loving mom who calls him her "special kitty"!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Osborne was born in June 2023 and came to CFFR in November from Houston after he was attacked by two dogs and had a bad break (very close to the growth plate) on his left front leg.

Additionally, he had other medical issues: He was suffering from an upper-respiratory infection and sarcoptic mange, along with several bite wounds.

He came to CFFR on Dec. 1, 2023, and our veterinarian, Dr. Madole, performed surgery on Dec. 4 to pin the leg.

Post surgery, Osborne went to his first foster mom and received the required physical therapy for his nerve, muscle, and bone damage. He worked hard and was soon running, chasing, and wrestling with the other cats and dog in the house and even mastered climbing the big cat scratching post and jumping onto the couch.

Osborne then went to a second foster home, where he received socialization to help him build his confidence, as he was very traumatized from the injury. He was shy about being picked up and a bit afraid of people. Initially, he would run and hide a lot, but he finally started to enjoy being around other pets and people.

Osborne was adopted on Feb. 7, 2024. Below is an update we recently received from his adoptive mom.

“Yes, the artist formerly known as Osborne (his name is now Hamlet) is doing great. He was very shy at first, so I expanded his roaming space very gradually. Now, he has access to the whole house, and he is high-energy, curious, talkative, sociable, and healthy. He likes climbing on people.

“He’s still a little shy about the process of being picked up or petted, but once it’s happening, he’s a purring machine and very relaxed. He has been enjoying short hikes in a cat backpack and is totally calm and unfazed on car rides to the mountains. A dream of a cat. Thank you for my special kitty!”
