Companion Pet Rescue & Transport of W TN: Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Climate change has resulted in increasingly dangerous temperatures, and we just had one of the hottest summers on record. Our rescue is located in rural west Tennessee and we send our dogs to adopters in and around our Southbury, CT, adoption center.

The extreme heat we are experiencing more often is proving to be a critical concern for our ability to rescue dogs in an area where we are desperately needed because it has become increasingly difficult to keep our Southbury-based adoption center cool enough to be safe for our dogs, staff, and volunteers.

The Petfinder Foundation disaster grant allowed us to purchase a Big Ass Fans Cool Space 300 portable evaporative cooler large enough to keep the kennel area at our adoption center comfortable and safe.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This puppy and her littermates had all their vetting completed in foster care in Tennessee and then came up on our weekly transport to our Southbury, CT adoption center.

Since she and her littermates were not pre-adopted, they stayed at the Southbury adoption center and attended adoption events on the weekends so they could meet their new families.

Because we received the Petfinder Foundation disaster grant, she and her littermates were comfortable while they were waiting to be adopted (as were the staff and volunteers caring for them!). Luckily for her and her littermates, that only took a few weeks of waiting.
