Companion Pet Rescue & Transport of W. TN: Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received a $4,000 Operation Grant from the Petfinder Foundation that we used to provide medical care for dogs and puppies as we prepared them to go on to their new homes.

Prior to adoption, every puppy under 6 months receives all age-appropriate vaccines, multiple rounds of deworming with Panacur, and preventives for fleas and ticks, and are spayed/neutered. All adult dogs (6 months and up) receive all age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and they're spayed/neutered. They also receive a 4DX heartworm test and a ProHeart-6 injection. In addition, we of course also treat any other medical issues as needed to ensure adopters receive a healthy new family member.

Medical expenses make up a large part of our operational budget, so receiving this grant from the Petfinder Foundation to cover the costs of vaccines and Panacur, and to help with some of the medical care needed beyond the standard vetting all dogs receive, was a huge boost for our lifesaving mission!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We pulled Snowball from the pound in Humboldt, Tenn. A volunteer went and met him and he was very friendly and got along great with other dogs. We knew he would make a great family member if he got a second chance.

In addition to all of the standard vetting he needed to get ready for adoption, he also had to be treated for heartworm infection, which cost about $500 because of his size.

After he finished all of his vetting, he was posted on Petfinder and when he got the all-clear to travel and we had an open foster home, we sent him to foster care in Connecticut.

He was recently adopted at one of our weekend adoption events and is doing great in his new home. He is going to start the training soon to be a therapy dog and, after that, he’ll be able to go to work with his owner.

We appreciate the grant from the Petfinder Foundation that helped make his second chance possible.
