How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant money was gratefully received and used for medical care of the animals at our shelter above and beyond what is normal care.

Our shelter is under the care of the city of New Haven, and they can only take on normal medical bill costs. Our grant helped us pay for heartworm treatment, dental work for some of our senior animals, giardia treatment for 2 of our dogs, and many other medical expenses that normally would not be covered.

Rocco was a 2 year old pit bull/Dutch shepherd mix that was at our shelter for many months. He was rapidly losing weight. Our medical director took him to the vet, where it was found that he had giardia. This was treated with medicine, and he was adopted by a wonderful couple who loved him (and changed his name to Guinness). Here’s what his adopter had to say: Guinness is doing so amazing, he’s the happiest little dude ever, the best little companion, the best family dog (here he is with my new nephew checking out the ocean in Massachusetts), the easiest dog, the funniest, the best bonus watchdog, and just the best guy ever. I broke my ankle the other day and he follows me everywhere from a distance, keeping an eye on me & making sure I don’t fall head-first down the stairs. Honestly I think he’s a really, really happy dog. In short, I wish everyone would adopt a shelter dog and find out how amazing they are!rnrnCharlie was a 17 (?) year old poodle mix who had terrible teeth. The grant helped pay for his dental care, and now he is happily in a home with a German Pointer sister. He even is able to eat dry food with no issues!
