Bella was one of 23 dogs that we got from a hoarding situation. The owners had approximately 50 dogs that they could no longer care for. They wanted to keep Bella, but were concerned that she had a “tumor” on her belly and was going to die soon. After looking at the “tumor” it was discovered that it was a very large inguinal hernia. The owners agreed to give her up to our care.

She had to have surgery to repair the hernia and remove all of her rotten, infected teeth. All of her intestines and her spleen were inside the hernia and had to be relocated back into the abdominal cavity. Additionally, her femoral artery was running through the hole as well. Since she needed to be under anesthesia for a long time and she is only 4 lbs., the vet left a small hole for the artery to stay passed through. Her blood glucose levels were dropping and she had several seizures as she was coming out of the anesthesia. Fortunately, she made it through and is recovering nicely.

At this time, the foster mom is going to adopt her due to the fact that there might be future surgery necessary if there are complications regarding the femoral artery.
