K9s For Warriors: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant has allowed dogs at K9s For Warriors to get outside and play, experience new stimuli, and relieve the stresses of being in a kennel. With the grant funds, we purchased dog kiddie pools, dog igloo houses, sprinklers, an ice shaver, tetherball sets, and sandboxes. The purchased enrichment items have allowed our dogs to be able to get play time outside and stay cool in the Florida heat.

Ash is a 1-year-old silver Lab mix with an exuberant amount of energy and a happy-go-lucky personality. He was once a potential candidate to become a service dog but, unfortunately, his energy levels proved too much for the job. As a result, Ash has found himself living in kennels and waiting for his forever family.
Despite the love and care he receives from the staff at K9s For Warriors, Ash can’t seem to shake off his boredom. It’s not uncommon to see him chasing his tail, a sign of his restlessness and frustration.
That’s where the Petfinder Foundation’s dog enrichment grant comes in. Thanks to this grant, K9s For Warriors was able to purchase a tetherball set and a kiddie pool for Ash and the other adoptable dogs. And it’s made all the difference for Ash!
With his new toys, he’s found a healthy way to exert his energy and keep himself occupied. He spends hours playing tetherball with the staff and splashing around in the kiddie pool, thoroughly enjoying himself.
While Ash may still be waiting for his forever family, he’s certainly not lacking in love or fun at K9s For Warriors. And with the help of the Petfinder Foundation’s grant, he’s been able to find happiness and reduce his boredom in a meaningful way.
We’re confident that, with his infectious energy and joyful personality, Ash will find his forever family soon. In the meantime, we’re grateful to have him in our care and see him having a blast!
