Seminole County Animal Services: Purina & Amazon Treats for the Holidays Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the cat treats as a going-home gift for any cat adopted, and also for a yummy enrichment treat for our cats housed at the shelter or in foster care.

It gave our customers a healthy, tasty treat to take home with their newly adopted cat and allowed volunteers to spend time with the cats and give them treats, allowing better human-pet interaction. Also, our foster homes took the treats home to use with their foster kittens to get them used to being given treats and to look forward to special treat time.

How many pets did this grant help?

Several hundred

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Molly (first photo) is a cat who came in with newborn kittens. She was barely an adult cat herself. She was super thin and could not take care of her babies. Molly had to be force-fed and the kittens bottle-fed, she was so frail. The first thing that tempted her were the Friskies Party Mix treats. We were hopeful when she would pick at them that she would eventually get stronger and be able to be adopted. Flash forward two months and Molly is healthy and happy and ready to be adopted.

As for the other pics, Checkers (second photo) and Prince (third photo) were adopted and went home with some treats; Smudge (fourth photo) is still available and enjoys the treats the staff and volunteers give to him.
