Heidi's Legacy Dog Rescue: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The rescue has been struggling with donations since Covid began. We want to help as many animals as we can, but it has been very difficult on the rescue with donations at an all time low.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Whitey was brought in as a stray on Jan. 3 after being hit by a car. He has a fractured left distal femur and had orthopedic surgery done on Jan. 4. We really wanted Whitey to receive the needed surgery since the orthopedic vet felt he would be a sure success with the surgery.

Whitey is now actively running and playing again like a normal dog because of the chance we took with saying okay with the surgery. He walks normally, although every so often he gives a hop with the leg that was broken. He is not a fan of the leash.

He loves to walk around his foster’s yard and smell everything. This makes us believe he would do best in a home that has a fenced in yard.

He is okay with other dogs but a little slow — we think it is because of his leg injury. He loves to cuddle on his foster mom’s lap, but it has to be on his terms. He is a typical Chihuahua who wants it his way all the time. He is about 3-4 years old and weighs 13.8 lbs. He is fully vaccinated, neutered/microchipped and on flea and heartworm prevention.

You can meet Whitey here.
