How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This money was used to help two dogs, Thelma and Louise. We treated their multiple disease processes, including expensive heartworm treatments.

This grant helped two dogs, Thelma and Louise to be treated and adopted out to their forever homes! Thank you for this funding!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Thelma (first photo) and Louise (second photo) came to us after we noticed them on a rehoming site and had some quality-of-life concerns. At 7 and 8 years old, respectively, after living outside for quite some time and not receiving proper medical care, these two had a slew of issues.

Both were very thin, but with very distended abdomens; Thelma had severe hair loss from chronic external parasitism; Louise had loads of parasites and sand in her feces; Thelma’s eyes were loaded with crusty discharge (she has Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, a.k.a. dry eye, and needs eye medications for life); Louise had hair loss where her chain collar was.

Thelma had recently had a litter, and we were able to help her puppies, too. Both dogs had dental disease, which can negatively impact overall health. Both dogs were also heartworm-positive. Heartworm disease is preventable, and it is very dangerous, especially in older dogs like Thelma and Louise.

Both dogs have since been treated and adopted to their amazing forever homes. We are so grateful for the opportunity to help these two beautiful dogs, and we are especially grateful for their adopters and for all the love they received from volunteers, fosters, and staff along the way.

A big THANK YOU to the Petfinder Foundation, whose generosity gave us the ability to treat their multiple disease processes, including very expensive heartworm treatments. We couldn’t make success stories like this happen without their help.
