Clover's Cat Club: Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

During the grant period, Clover’s Cat Club used the Petfinder Foundation Operations Grant to directly improve the health, comfort, and daily care of the cats in our program. We prioritized purchasing large stainless-steel litter boxes and scoops, along with core vaccines (FVRCP and rabies), because we recognized the long-term impact these investments would have on both animal welfare and caregiver efficiency.

The transition to stainless-steel litter boxes has made a tremendous difference in our program. Our previous plastic litter boxes had become difficult to fully sanitize over time, despite regular cleaning. The new stainless-steel boxes are much easier to disinfect thoroughly, improve odor control, and create a cleaner, more hygienic environment for the cats in our care.

Just as importantly, our volunteers and foster caregivers have consistently commented on how much easier the new boxes and scoops are to clean and maintain. This has helped reduce daily workload and improved overall efficiency within our rescue operations.

The cats themselves have adjusted extremely well to the new boxes and appear very comfortable using them. Maintaining clean, spacious litter areas is an important part of reducing stress and supporting healthy litter-box habits, especially in a rescue environment where cats may already be experiencing significant change and uncertainty.

Grant funds also allowed us to provide core vaccinations for cats and kittens entering our rescue program. While the cats may be less enthusiastic about receiving vaccines than using their new litter boxes, these vaccinations provide critical protection against common and highly contagious illnesses. Having the ability to vaccinate promptly gives our organization peace of mind and helps ensure the cats in our care are protected as they move through foster homes, veterinary care, and, ultimately, into adoptive homes.

Overall, this grant has had a meaningful and lasting impact on Clover’s Cat Club. By investing in durable sanitation equipment and preventative medical care, we have strengthened our ability to provide safe, healthy, and compassionate care to the cats who depend on us. We are incredibly grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for supporting our mission and helping us continue to improve the lives of cats in our community.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One cat who especially benefited from this grant was a black cat named Midnight (first and second photos). Midnight spent a long time in our care waiting for the right adopter, and during that time she became somewhat famous among our volunteers for her dedication to “helping” with litter-box maintenance. Every single day, Midnight would spend long stretches of time carefully scratching at the walls of the litter boxes after they had been cleaned, often for an hour or more. We joked that she was our resident litter-box clean-up crew.

When we introduced the new stainless-steel litter boxes purchased through the Petfinder Foundation Operations Grant, volunteers immediately noticed how much Midnight loved them. The smooth sides and large size seemed to make her litter box “quality control inspections” even more enjoyable. Beyond being entertaining, Midnight’s behavior reinforced something important to us: cats truly do notice and benefit from clean, comfortable, well-maintained environments.

The upgraded litter boxes also made a major difference for our volunteers, who found them significantly easier to sanitize and maintain. This allowed us to keep Midnight’s environment cleaner and more hygienic while reducing workload for caregivers.

In addition to benefiting from the improved environment, Midnight also received core vaccinations through grant funding while in our care. Having those vaccines completed gave us confidence that she was protected and healthy as she continued her adoption journey.

We are thrilled to share that Midnight was recently adopted into a loving home after capturing the hearts of many people who followed her story. Support from the Petfinder Foundation helped us provide her with a safe, healthy, enriching environment while she waited for her perfect match.
