Effingham Animal Rescue Sanctuary: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant helped us cover medical expenses for Lettie, an abandoned pit bull terrier, whose continued lack of care had led to severe skin issues. Determining the best treatment for Lettie led to an investment of over $890, as well as multiple months of foster care from a veterinary technician who has a passion for dogs with immune challenges.

We're grateful that the immunosuppressive medicine cyclosporine and the antifungal ketoconazole are helping Lettie's body and spirit recover to the point that we feel confident she can be placed successfully with a new, caring family.

How many pets did this grant help?

1, Lettie

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lettie came to us with a severe infection which caused such irritation that her paws and skin were swollen and blistered.

She was found abandoned and suffering, alone in a home. When we heard of her situation from an area animal control officer, we immediately got her the medial attention she needed.

We’ve worked to determine the exact cause of her swelling and irritation and are confident that she’ll be a great addition to her forever family, but her monthly medicine will cost $200+ a month. We’re excited to share that she is available for adoption.

You can meet Lettie here.
