How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Our senior pet, Puddy, is diabetic. The costs to care for a diabetic kitty are substantial. This grant helped a family get a good financial start with Puddy’s care.

While we know that they will be able to financially care for Puddy in the future, this grant made the decision so much easier as they know they will be going home with special dietary food and medication to start with right away and they can come back for more.

They also did not have to pay for Puddy’s adoption fee, as that was covered as well. It was clear they were already in love with him, but we could see it was just the nudge needed for them to say, “Yes, we will adopt him!”

Puddy is now 8 years old. He joined us when he was 7. With just a brief time away with a foster family, Puddy was with us exactly one year to the day. He is such a loving boy, curious and always ready for snuggles and purring. We just loved chopping up zucchini each afternoon as Puddy’s treat and watching him delight in this wonderful snack — which doesn’t affect his glucose numbers!

Adopting a diabetic cat is always harder. Puddy being diabetic and a senior kitty made placement even more difficult. Puddy’s new family came in thinking they wanted one type of kitty but then succumbed to Puddy’s charm.

It was a perfect match, since they had previously had a diabetic cat and knew what it entailed and the costs involved. The grant money from the Petfinder Foundation helped this couple get a perfect start!
