How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

the scratchers were used in cages where kittens had to be kept on an overnight, or daily basis as well as in cages where they were displayed for the public to see and adopt.

This helped the kittens to cope with the stress of being caged,, relieved the boredom when no one was handling them and allowed them to just relax and be more at ease.

How many pets did this grant help?

It helped 56 find homes over the past few months and continues to help support those still awaiting adoption.

Fritz was a kitten that was nice as can be-he was social and sweet and always friendly . However when caged for showiong or at adoption events, he would go into a corner and hide-he simply rolled up into a ball, faced away from the public and hid his head. We began to introduce the scratchers before adoption events so he got used to them and was using them on a daily basis. At the next adoption event at the local Petco store, the scratcher was placed in the cage Fritz occupied. After about 10 minutes of hiding his face, he looked over at the scratcher, stood up, went to it and started stretching and scratching on it. we immediately rewarded him with treats and he stayed out most of that adoption event. That led the following day to his adoption to a permanent home. They came back to see him the following Monday and adopted him.
