White River Humane Society: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

During COVID-19, our shelter has struggled greatly with caring for our animals and keeping our adoptions up. It has been a struggle because many people do not want to come out to our shelter, many do not want any extra human contact, and because we want to to keep our employees healthy, we have had to adopt by appointment only, which means less attention for our animals. Thanks to this funding during this great time of need, our animals have continued to stay up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm prevention, and necessary medical care and food/litter.

This grant greatly helped our animals stay healthy, and it has reduced the amount of sickness in our crowded shelter despite adoptions being down. This has allowed us to have one less worry. Our animals still have the necessary food, cat litter, and vaccines. Luckily, we have kept all of our animals healthy thanks to this grant funding.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One specific story is about Reddie. She has been at our shelter for three years. During this time, we wanted to keep our stress levels down for our animals and make sure they had the care they needed. Reddie is one of many special faces that was still able to get a full bowl of food, monthly heartworm medication, and the necessary updated vaccinations. Reddie luckily was able to transfer to another shelter to see if her odds might be better in terms of finding that forever home, but thanks to this grant, she was able to stay alive and get that chance to find a forever home.
