How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The money will provide approximately six months worth of prescription food and medication for Whitman, a senior cat, in his new home.

Whitman was adopted on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2019, after 440 days in our care. Being able to offer his new family this safety net was an added perk that solidified their commitment to his lifelong care.

Whitman spent 440 days with the VHS. He came in with a very angry, red, itchy face and eyes. He constantly scratched, even finding ways to scratch around his E-collar, and eventually had to have an eye removed from infection. We spent several months trying to determine the cause of his allergies using trial and error, and he visited a dermatologist in July. We finally found the right combination that worked for him, and had to give it a few weeks to work. He was available for adoption most of that time, but not as visible as many of our other cats because he lived in our Spay & Neuter Clinic under close supervision. Finally, someone adopted him on Dec. 29. She was on board with his extra lifelong expense even before we were able to let her know that, thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, the first six months were covered!
