How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Kongs are beloved toys in the animal shelter for a few reasons: Of course for staff, Kong toys are easy to fill with peanut butter and treats, and are easy to clean. And for the dogs, Kongs provide them with safe and fun stimulation!
We like to freeze peanut butter and treats in the Kongs so it takes a while for dogs to get the treats out, which works their body and mind. We can take toys inside or outside and know that they are absolutely safe and won't get torn apart.

Mackenzie is one of the long-term residents here at the Humane Society of Elkhart County. She is a fantastic dog, but is very dog selective, so it is harder for her to get adopted.
Mackenzie is also very high-energy. She can be outside playing for hours at a time and she still isn’t satisfied. Having something to work at, such as a stuffed Kong, in her kennel, keeps her quality of life high as she is happier.
