Wichita Animal Action League: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used this money to purchase flea/tick preventative for felines and canines, heartworm preventative for canines, vaccines for felines and canines, and dewormer for our kittens. Because we were able to utilize this grant to pay for these preventatives, we were able to reallocate money to take in several additional medical rescue pulls who otherwise would have been euthanized. Due to a decrease in donations secondary to COVID, our ability to take in many medical cases has been hindered.

This grant allowed us to purchase preventatives and vaccines for animals already in our care as well as animals whom we had just pulled from local shelters. We were able to reallocate some resources so that we could pull several medical cases that we normally might not have been able to afford because of the receipt of this generous grant.

With what we purchased in preventatives alone, we were able to vaccinate 50 kittens and 25 dogs, deworm 25 kittens, provide flea/tick treatment for 25 kittens, and give 42 doses of monthly heartworm preventative.

How many pets did this grant help?

Approximately 75

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tessa was a 6-month-old husky puppy who had been brought into our local animal shelter as a stray. She had one of the worst cases of bilateral entropion that our vet had ever seen and it was so painful that she couldn’t open her eyes. This had been doing on for her entire life and, without multiple surgeries, she would be destined for a life of pain.

Due to this grant, we were able to provide her with three rounds of vaccines, flea/tick preventative and heartworm prevention, and we were able to reallocate some funds so that she could have the first of the necessary surgeries to give her some relief.

She is now a happy-go-lucky puppy who loves all people and other dogs. She has a bright future ahead of her and we couldn’t be more grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for its help in giving this puppy a pain-free future.
