Wichita Animal Action League: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant allowed us to pay for almost half of a life-changing surgery for Tator, a young dog who has been in increasing pain since we pulled him from a local shelter. While we were able to fundraise for some of his procedures, we lacked some of the funds, which the Petfinder Foundation so graciously covered through this grant.
This grant and the Bar Dog Operation grant have been incredibly appreciated the past few years, as they are not necessarily program-based, so they allow us to cover important medical expenses.

We pulled Tator from a very small rural shelter where he was at risk of euthanasia for space. He’s … unusual to say the least. He REALLY looks like a cartoon character! He has the sweetest personality, loves everyone (two- and four-legged), is very smart, and is just overall a wonderful pup!
Poor Tator got dealt a bad genetic hand, though. He seems to have inherited the bad genes from both his corgi and German shepherd sides and had advanced bilateral hip dysplasia at only 11 months of age! That meant that this sweet puppy was already very lame and in constant pain, and his pain would only get worse without surgery. One of our vet partners graciously offered to help us by offering a discounted rate to get the worst hip done.
Tator was able to have his second surgery a month ago, and he is already trying to run to keep up with his foster brothers. He is still going through physical therapy and rehab and will be for the next month or so before he will be ready for adoption. His quality of life is much brighter now, and we have no doubt that he will find the perfect forever family!
