Always and Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant helped Always and Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary provide Mollie's melanoma vaccine that helps stop the metastasis rate and prolong her life. Her amazing new family was then able to take her to her new life and forever home on July 25, 2022. Always and Furever will also be covering a booster vaccination for Mollie in six months.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Mollie is a 9-year-old dogue de Bordeaux (French mastiff). Mollie came to Always and Furever back in March. She was surrendered by her family that she’s had for over nine years because they were moving to an apartment and couldn’t take her with them.

Unfortunately, at the same time Mollie also received a devastating cancer diagnosis. Our vets worked hard to remove all her mast cell tumors, but unfortunately, the locations were difficult and the margins weren’t great, so all the cancer couldn’t be removed.

Luckily, the vets were able to take her cancer cells and develop a vaccine ($910 per shot) specifically for her to help slow down the cancer and give Mollie more time on this earth to find a family.

She does great with all the dogs in the barn and loves every human she meets. She has been to every single adoption event this summer and is always a favorite, but somehow still hadn’t been scooped up yet.

This week, she found her forever family. You can see her smiling in the photos and the Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant made this all possible. Thank you, Petfinder Foundation!
