Paris Animal Welfare Society: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Our 11-year-old blind and diabetic beagle, Lucie, came to us from another organization that had found her as a stray. With the assistance from the Petfinder Foundation Senior Pet Adoption Grant, we were able to waive Lucie's adoption fee ($100) and cover the first two years post-adoption of the Vetsulin and insulin syringes needed for her care.

Our staff at P.A.W.S. love nothing more than to help animals, especially those who are seniors or have special needs. Several of the animals we transfer in from high-[intake] shelters are ones who need extra TLC and require extensive veterinary care. Being able to cover the cost of Lucie's adoption fee and medication for two years, we were able to open the door to another senior animal in need.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

After receiving the grant early December, we received interest from a family in adopting Lucie. Lucie got the greatest gift of all: a home on Christmas Day! Her new family will not have to worry about purchasing insulin or insulin syringes for the first two years post-adoption. Being able to offer this for Lucie and her forever home gave that extra push to get her adopted. We were also able to cover her adoption fee ($100), which helped cover her medical expenses. Lucie is now in her forever home just in time for the New Year.
