Adopt Me Bluegrass Pet Rescue: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant funded the purchase of assorted toys for dogs and puppies in our centers. Providing these toys to each crate and litter benefitted dogs and puppies by easing their boredom and promoting oral health. Puppies, especially, need plenty of appropriate chew toys to learn acceptable chewing behaviors from an early age.
We also use toys to help alleviate our rescue dogs' separation anxiety after being abandoned. Often animals come into our rescue shut down and afraid to interact with humans due to their past experiences. We find that having a supply of healthy toys to offer them eases their transition to adoption.

Ducky’s journey started on the streets, where he was picked up as a stray and taken to Animal Control. That’s when our rescue said “yes” to this handsome Great Pyrenees mix with the coolest features.
At first, Ducky was completely shut down. He refused to leave his crate — unless there was a KONG stuffed with peanut butter waiting for him. Slowly, one little lick at a time, he began to trust.
A wonderful volunteer stepped up to foster Ducky, and while it wasn’t easy, the patience and love paid off. Ducky wasn’t sure about people; he didn’t want to be too far away, but he wasn’t ready to be too close either — except, of course, when there was that magical KONG.
Then something incredible happened: The bond grew. Day by day, Ducky’s walls came down and he blossomed in his foster home. The rest is history — Ducky’s foster family couldn’t imagine life without him, and they made it official.
Today, Ducky is living his very best life, surrounded by love, peanut butter, and the family he always deserved.
