How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The money was such a blessing. We bought needed supplies, including 25 cat vaccines, syringes with needles, large bottles of wormer and syringes, flea preventative, two small cat traps, a cage, and food.

The vaccines were given to 25 unvaccinated foster cats; the wormer was given to our five fosters to have on-hand to give to incoming foster cats and dogs; and flea preventatives for cats and dogs were given to fosters. The cage is being used for transport of cats; the traps are being used to trap feral cats and kittens.

The grant helped us buy two traps for cats. We loaned them to ladies who live in a housing project in our county to trap cats dumped at the project. In particular, two desperate, starving kittens were trapped.

The first was a tiny black male (first photo) who had fly blow all over and inside him. After he was trapped, we got him and cleaned and syringed his butt to get all the maggots out. We applied Revolution to kill any maggots we missed, but his prognosis was poor.

The next day, his sister (second photo) was trapped. She too had fly blow, but only on her coat. We cleaned her, applied Revolution and took her to the same foster where her brother had been taken. The foster family bottle-fed them both and provided lots of good food and love.

That was three weeks ago. Last week, they received their first vaccinations and also wormer. This week, the siblings are going to be placed on Petfinder.com.
