PALS Animal Life Savers: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant provided us with the resources to purchase new toys for the pets in our care, both at the adoption center and in foster homes.

Playtime is an essential part of the shelter experience. We currently have a lot of kittens with boundless energy who love to be out and playing. Playtime and one-on-one time is equally important for the shy and scared cats. It helps to bring them out of their shells and build confidence.

How many pets did this grant help?

Our average intake over the year is 150+ cats.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

James (first photo) is one of the many cats enjoying the new toys purchased for our adoption center.

Two-year-old James came to us after being severely injured when he was hit by a car and left for dead along the side of the road. He had to have part of his tail amputated, but has no long-term injuries.

James is like a big kitten and really enjoys his social time. He loves to play in the cat tunnels (second photo), flying through the air to catch the mouse on the end of the wand toy or batting balls around. James is also friendly with the kittens and gets excited to show them all his acrobatics with the new toys (third photo). He is one specific example of how this generous donation helped to enrich the lives of our shelter cats.

You can meet James here.

We were also able to upgrade our cat tree and cat scratcher, which were in need of an upgrade.

People outside the shelter window are equally entertained watching the cats during social time. They enjoy watching them playing and having fun.
