Westfield Homeless Cat Project: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant enables our organization to reduce our adoption fees; by defraying the cost, adoption is financially easier for prospective adopters and we are still able to cover the costs of preparing our cats/kitties for their forever homes. Every cat/kitten that comes through our shelter is vaccinated and neutered/spayed prior to adoption; each cat/kitten with no special needs costs over $200 for a health checkup which includes vaccines, deworming, flea medication, and neuter/spay. It is our goal to get all our homeless cats/kitties into their forever homes! Anything we can do for our prospective adopters helps us reach this goal.

How many pets did this grant help?

27-35

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Raymour and Flannigan (first and second photos, respectively) are two 7-month-old tabbies who were helped by this grant. They were left in a bag in the back of a furniture store. The manager of the store called us and one of our volunteers picked up the kitties and brought them to the shelter.

They were vetted and deemed ready for adoption; happily, both boys were adopted over the weekend by a wonderful family who opened up their hearts to both boys. We were able to help by defraying their adoption costs.

Mango (third photo) is an orange tabby who has also been adopted.
