Westfield Homeless Cat Project: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We used the funds from the grant to reduce our adoption fees with the expected outcome that we could get more cats/kittens adopted to the forever homes they richly deserve; fees, of course, are an obstacle for many potential adopters; offsetting those fees through a grant helped us with this goal! To date, the grant has made it possible to adopt five of our cats/kitties into forever homes. Three were adopted to families, one to a senior on a fixed income, and another to an individual who fell in love instantly with Milo but who already had two cats, one with special needs who requires monthly medications.
How many pets did this grant help?
Five to ten
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
For many, many months, Milo lived the life of an unwanted stray. He never knew where or when he would get his next meal, was always seeking refuge, and was prey to the weather, busy streets, and other animals. For a long time, no one cared about Milo, and he feared that every day would be his last.
That is, until the good people from the Westfield Homeless Cat Project intervened. They took Milo in and immediately arranged for a veterinary exam. Milo’s days on the streets had taken a toll – he was infested with fleas, ticks, worms, and ear mites.
But WHCP was not deterred – nor was Milo. While his living conditions were poor, his personality was undaunted. He remained a sweet and gentle soul and put his trust in WHCP. He received the appropriate medical attention and, after a time, was ready to find his forever home.
As a result of the grant funds, Milo was adopted to a woman named Nancy, who had an immediate connection and fell in love with him instantly. Nancy had two other cats at home, one with special needs which require monthly medications, so reducing Milo’s adoption fee was the only way it would be possible for her to adopt him.
Nancy was so excited to hear about the Petfinder Foundation fee-reduction grant! Milo went to a wonderful adoptive home, where he has adjusted beautifully and is blossoming even more – becoming chatty and playful – and is very loved. At long last, Milo is safe and adored and a beloved member of his family. And he is is the purr-fect picture of health!
This is just one story. Offering financial help to adopters enables us to place our cats with adopters like Nancy. Success!
