Animal Protection Center of Southeastern Massachusetts: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant was a major win for our organization, as we've had dozens of animals in need of emergency medical care so far in 2023. Veterinary expenses are higher than ever, and having the Petfinder Foundation's support was crucial! Our shelter prioritizes the health and wellbeing of every animal in our care, so medical treatment is of utmost importance.

This grant was allocated toward the care of Charlie, a 4-year-old pit bull in need of TPLO surgery.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Charlie was a 4-year-old pit bull who made her way to the APCSM when her owner unfortunately passed away. She was a loving, sweet, beautiful girl who just wanted to hang out all day and show her appreciation for her fellow humans!

Our team quickly noticed that she had a leg injury that was affecting her ability to walk normally and comfortably. After a consultation with a board-certified surgeon, it was found that she had tearing of the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) and would therefore need surgery called a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO).

Straight away, Charlie was moved into a foster home where she could rest while she waited for her surgery date. Surgery went extremely well and she recovered smoothly in her foster home.

To everyone’s delight, Charlie ended up being adopted by her foster family. We are so thankful that she was able to receive the medical treatment she needed and finally find her forever home. Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for helping to make this possible!
