The Winnipeg Humane Society: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Purina Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant helped the Winnipeg Humane Society care for and support our senior cats and dogs. Our team was so excited to receive this funding. Our seniors often need that little extra care and attention, including special diets. This funding allowed us to purchase more-expensive cat food specific to C/D diets and specialty litter, which has a softer, finer grain on their paws.

Not to be left out, our senior dogs enjoyed the necessary pampering as well.

Over the course of this grant, 3,102 animals came through the shelter doors, and senior cats and dogs made up approximately 25% of this number.

The WHS care of our animals is to the highest of standards, but this funding allowed our team to do so without the constant worry of cost.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Alfie is one of the many senior cats who benefitted from this funding. Upon Alfie’s arrival in the shelter, our vets formulated a special diet for him. He was placed on a C/D diet, which is a more-expensive cat food formulated to help support feline urinary-tract health. The special diet was an investment in his future health that was well worth it.

After more than 100 days in the shelter, Alfie found his forever home. Thanks to this support, Alfie radiated good health by the time he was adopted.
