Catahoula Rescue of New England: Houlas & Heelers, Inc.: Play Pet Beds Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This is a wonderful grant in the way that it saves the foster from having to buy a bed for their foster dog. When they get their foster pup, that animal has a soft, safe, and comfortable place to snuggle and call its safe place. It is a really nice asset to have for both the foster and the animal that is now in their care!
How many pets did this grant help?
It is going to help 20+ because in one situation it went to a mom with seven pups!
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Mitch (first photo, left) is an amazing fella that came to a first-time foster who was also searching for a dog of her own. Mitch, however, was not meant to be her foster and and it is ironic how things work because he went to someone else and when he started to get sick, she decided she no longer wanted him as it was “too much work” to clean up after a sick dog.
It was at this time that we learned that sweet Mitch had Parvo, even though he had tested negative prior to coming to us from the South. After a tough and delicate battle, he pulled through and that first foster that fell in love with him took him in and nursed him through his recovery and then adopted him!
This same foster continues to foster and once Mitch got better, she started fostering again, which was great as Mitch LOVES having a buddy to play with and as you can see, Bo (first photo, right, and second photo) loves him right back, so much so that he wants to lie on his P.L.A.Y. bed with him!
