Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit: Play Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The P.L.A.Y Pet Beds provided comfort to many of the dogs in our care as they waited to be adopted. Many times, our kennels are set up with Kuranda beds and/or just blankets. Having these particular types of beds available to us certainly alleviated some of the stress we see in our shelter. It gave the dogs a chance to settle down into something that was more cozy and calming. It also lowered the noise level in the kennel areas due to more dogs being a little more settled than usual.

Additionally, we utilized the beds for some of our off-site adoption events. Again, these beds allowed us to have the dogs we brought settle in the crates while we did our adoption events. They showcased better and seemed more comfortable.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Siren was one of the longest residents ever to be in our shelter and in foster care. Our staff and volunteers took her everywhere to promote her and to try and find the best home for her.

She was with us for 596 days, bouncing around between a kennel at the shelter, foster homes, adoption events, news channels to promote her, and so on. It was clear she was getting stressed because she was moving around so much and did not have any consistency.

We provided one of these beds to her and it did seem to make a difference wherever she went. We wanted to provide her with some level of comfort. After those 596 days, she was finally adopted to a wonderful home.
