How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant was very helpful in getting small animals adopted into their forever homes. Thanks to this grant, the adoption fee was waived for small pets. Six rabbits, six guinea pigs, one ferret, two rats, one parakeet, four hedgehogs, and two chinchillas were adopted through this funding.
This grant also helped with our marketing. Many community members aren't aware that we often have small animals available for adoption.

At 10 years old, our bonded chinchillas, Salt and Pepper, found the perfect home and are starting a new life adventure together.
The Sobieski family are true animal lovers and share their home with a dog, cat, tortoise, and chickens. They are also involved in the leader-dog program and have regularly hosted a leader-dog mom since 2017. However, this loving family recently experienced some heartbreak when they lost their senior chinchilla, Mojo, during a surgical procedure.
It wasn’t too long before they were on the lookout for a new chinchilla to add to their family. After contacting a rescue, the Sobieskis turned to Petfinder to help in their search. The bonded pair, Salt and Pepper, came up in their search, and they immediately contacted the Capital Area Humane Society for more information.
The family jumped in the car and, after an hour drive, they were able to meet this sweet pair. The decision was an easy one; they knew that Salt and Pepper had to be part of their family.
Salt and Pepper, now Felix and Oscar, are living their best lives. They have a large enclosure (third photo) and get lots of cuddles every day. Eventually, they will be able to adventure out of their cage and will have a long hallway where they can play and explore.
With the money that was saved thanks to the Petfinder Foundation grant, the family was able to purchase a large silent wheel along with some other supplies for their new best friends.
