Little Traverse Bay Humane Society: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to the Cat Enrichment grant from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to purchase six durable Kuranda towers for the cats in our care. The Kuranda towers provide our cats with a safe and easy-to-sanitize surface on which to climb, perch, and rest while waiting for their forever homes. In addition, we were able to purchase three Kitty Cots to hang in the windows, giving the cats a space to observe the outdoors.

How many pets did this grant help?

200

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Gabby (first photo) was found as a stray cat, outdoors, but has since transitioned to inside life. While she has developed quite the relationship with staff and routine volunteers, it has been difficult for her to warm up to potential adopters.

The Kuranda towers that we purchased after receiving this grant gave Gabby a safe place to climb when meeting new visitors, or a space to hide when feeling overwhelmed.

Gabby seems to enjoy looking outside the window in our main cat room, soaking up the sunshine or watching the dogs run around the yard. The shelter staff loves that her new perch can be cleaned thoroughly every day, preventing the spread of disease.

Gabby is still available for adoption at our shelter; learn more about her here.

UPDATE: Gabby was adopted on July 12 (second photo)!
