Big Lake Humane Society: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With your funding, we were able to update and renovate our beloved catio, providing a safe and enriching space for the more outdoorsy and feral cats in our shelter. The enhancements included new gravel, heated houses, water dishes, and outdoor enrichment equipment, all of which play a crucial role in promoting the mental and physical health of our outdoor cats.

We are thrilled to report that the improvements have been met with immense appreciation from both our furry residents and our dedicated staff. The catio now stands as a beacon of comfort and joy for our cats, offering them a stimulating environment where they can roam, play, and relax to their hearts' content.

In recognition of your generosity, we have publicly acknowledged the Petfinder Foundation on our Facebook page and have proudly displayed plaques both inside and outside of the catio to commemorate your support.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Thanks to the generous support of the Petfinder Foundation, two formerly feral cats, Jester and Jemma, found their happily ever afters in loving barn homes.

When they first arrived at Big Lake Humane Society, Jester and Jemma were full of wild spirit, but with the help of the updated catio, they were able to gradually acclimate to their new environment. The enriched outdoor space provided them with the stimulation and comfort they needed to transition from their feral instincts to being more sociable companions.

Today, Jester and Jemma are thriving in their barn homes, a testament to the transformative power of proper care and enrichment for outdoor cats.
