Ruff Start Rescue: A Shot at Life Vaccination Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Ruff Start Rescue placed 25 vaccines each in the hands of two of our most trusted and utilized veterinary clinics. Clinic staff tracked any incoming cats from our rescue who required the distemper vaccine and the product was utilized in these cases.

Each year since our inception we have doubled or tripled our intake of cats and dogs from the previous year. We are proud of our small and mighty organization, but as the animal intake increases, funding and product resources become scarce. This issue is particularly apparent when we have animals entering the rescue that require extensive care prior to their eligibility for adoption. With the generous donation from Petfinder and Boehringer Ingelheim we have been able to diminish some of the vetting expenses associated with our rescued cats and in turn we can allocate additional funding to other animals that require urgent and extensive medical and behavioral care. rnWe are so blessed to have the support of Petfinder and Boehringer Ingelheim, who believe in our mission to save the lives of as many wonderful animals as we can. All of our animals are required to be updated on all recommended and required vaccinations prior to adoption. With the help of Petfinder and Boehringer Ingelheim we were able to provide this vital vaccination to many cats in our care. We are so grateful for your very generous donation and your willingness to acknowledge our rescue in this wonderful product giving opportunity. Thank you!

How many pets did this grant help?

25 cats thus far have been provided with the distemper vaccine, and we anticipate that the remainder of the products will be utilized by the end of 2013.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Below is a few updates from the adopters of cats who were helped through this wonderful grant donation.rnrn1) I wanted to provide an update on Gee now named Luna. She is a fun and active kitten who loves to greet you when you come home. She is a cuddler when she’s missed you and her favorite toy is a squeaky mouse on a string. The family is really enjoying their new addition.rnrn2) Stella and Tigger (now Nora) spend all day climbing the screens on the windows… fighting… lol. Then nap. And when we go to bed at night, I have decided that they feel the confines of my bed are the arena for a nightly cage match. And just when I think they are done… then it is time for naughty kitty to eat my hair. lol. We LOVE them though.rnrn3) Squeek- We love our little girl, she adapted to our home instantly. Her markings are becoming more prominent as she gets older, and she is the spunkiest little kitten that we’ve ever seen! We renamed her Sky because my granddaughter thought it was a better name. She’s 4 and Sky lets her carry her around like a toy, licks her, and chases her around our house. She only sleeps for a couple hours at a time so we don’t get much sleep unless we shut her out of our bedroom. We really love this little girl and are glad that we waited until she was old enough to be adopted! She is a member of our family and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Thank you Ruff Start!
