The Babinski Foundation: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We purchased needed dog pill pockets and special diet canned dog food.

We rescue over 200 dogs a year from our local low-income reservations. Most of these animals come in with medical needs, behavioral issues and diet issues -- some very severe.

Treats are a great way to earn their trust when they have lived most of their lives not able to trust humans. Pill pockets are a hot commodity at our shelter with all the meds given to 30-70 dogs. This makes the task so much easier for both the staff and our dogs.

How many pets did this grant help?

30-70

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This is Shiloh. Shiloh came in infested with ticks. Hundreds of ticks were removed from him. He had so many ticks, he was anemic. He was so frightened and weak. He would cower in the corner, never moving. We spent days sitting with Shiloh giving treats, giving baths and picking ticks until he could learn to trust. It took over a month of medication, a special enriched diet, many treats and lots of love, but he went home to his forever loving family.
