Franklin County Humane Society of Missouri: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the grant to discount adoption fees at a crucial time for our shelter. In June, we hit 289 pets in our care, which is two and a half times our daily average number of pets.

We offered reduced adoption fees June 15-30:
All pets over 1 year old were $50.
Pets over 5 years old were FREE.
Cats housed at PetSmart (Washington, MO), Petsense (Sullivan, MO), and Purina Farms (Gray Summit, MO) were free.

The response to our Kia adoption discounts was outstanding. We completed 97 adoptions: 24 dogs and 73 cats during the event.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Virginia was a large senior dog who had been in our care for 112 days. She was very loving, but because she was 63 lbs. and 9½ years old, she was overlooked by many potential adopters.

The adoption grant allowed us to offer free adoptions for senior pets. Virginia was adopted on the second day of our Kia adoption event.

This sweet girl is now surrounded by her loving family, including three human siblings who spoil her daily.
