Tri-Lakes Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant had a direct and meaningful impact on our organization by allowing us to reduce adoption fees to just $25, significantly lowering financial barriers for potential adopters and increasing foot traffic to the shelter.

Through this initiative, we were able to successfully place 17 animals into loving homes who may have otherwise remained in our care longer. This increased adoption rate not only created space for additional animals in need but also helped accelerate positive outcomes across our shelter. We are incredibly grateful for the support, which made these life-changing connections possible for both pets and their new families.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One of the most meaningful outcomes of our fee-reduced adoption initiative was Sully, a senior dog who found his perfect match and a fresh start.

Sully’s adopter shared that from day one, the bond between them was immediate and undeniable. What began as a chance meeting has quickly turned into a daily routine filled with companionship and adventure. They now walk together every day, building a strong and consistent connection that highlights the importance of keeping pets active and engaged.

Since his adoption, Sully has already experienced so many “firsts” in his new life. He has been groomed, completed a wellness check with a local veterinarian, and even earned his Bark Ranger tag at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield, which speaks to his adopter’s commitment to including him in an active and enriched lifestyle. He has also enjoyed outings to pet-friendly stores, continuing to build confidence and socialization skills.

Perhaps most heartwarming is how his adopter describes the relationship not as his rescuing Sully, but as his being “adopted by Sully.” This sentiment captures the mutual benefit of adoption, showing how animals and people truly change each other’s lives.

Thanks to the reduced adoption fee made possible through the Kia Pet Adoption Grant, Sully was able to find a home where he is not only cared for, but celebrated. He is now preparing to travel with his adopter to Lafayette for a new adventure, proving that it is never too late for a dog to start their next chapter.

Sully’s story is a powerful reminder that removing financial barriers can open the door for life-changing connections for both pets and the people who welcome them home.
