Open Door Animal Sanctuary: Purina Consider A Shelter Pet Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant was used to cover the adoption fees for 12 cats and 10 dogs adopted in conjunction with the Purina Better Together Adoption Event in Soulard Park and at our shelter in conjunction with this promotion. These fees cover all medical costs related to making these cats and dogs ready for adoption and any costs related to qualifying applications (doing home checks and administrative work).

The grant helped the pets in our care who went on to be adopted by covering the costs associated with their spay/neuter, immunizations, flea/tick/heartworm/parasite preventative, and microchipping. It offset our costs associated with these essential services we provide to all our pets/adopters prior to adoption.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Starling was an older pit bull-mix puppy who, although adorable, had been returned several times due to her boundless puppy energy. We knew that we’d need to find the appropriate owner who would not only see her cuteness, but also know that they would have to spend lots of time working with her now that she was larger but still rambunctious. The Better Together event exposed her to lots of potential new owners and, while there was lots of interest, we felt only one of the potential adopters really had what it took to turn her into the awesome dog that she could be. We were able to find and identify this person because of the scale of event and tons of promotion that was possible with Purina and the Petfinder Foundation.
