Pearl River County SPCA: Animal Care EXPO Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Medical care and vaccines

We used this grant money to cover some special medical costs required by pets who needed to be seen by our advisory vet. We also used the grant to help cover the costs of microchips and vaccines.

How many pets did this grant help?

Vet did special exams/partial treatment for five pets. Vaccinated or microchipped about 150 other pets.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Freddie, a 6-month-old beagle, came in with a severely withered rear leg that he would not put much weight on. We sent him to the vet for an exam and she determined after doing x-rays that it was an old injury. We had him scheduled for amputation, but the vet had to cancel the appointment due to an emergency, so we put him in a foster home. When he went back about two weeks later for his amputation, the vet re-examined him and thought that he was showing enough improvement that she recommended giving him more time to heal. Freddie was just adopted into a perfect home for him with another dog and cats!
