Peak Lab Rescue: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The beneficiary of this grant was Cleo, a senior Lab who survived breast cancer. The award of $950 was used for Cleo's spay surgery ($175), to waive her adoption fee ($275), and to provide medication required throughout her lifetime to reduce the risk of recurrence of her breast cancer ($500).

Peak Lab Rescue is the largest foster-based dog rescue in North Carolina. Funding from the Petfinder Foundation allows us to continue to save dogs regardless of the cost of necessary medical treatment. This is especially important for the many senior dogs we save, all of whom need extensive medical care.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The beneficiary of this grant was Cleo, a senior Lab with a host of health problems that required treatment to prepare her for adoption. In addition to her spay, she had two procedures to remove cancerous mammary masses and one procedure that removed 27 badly damaged teeth. Cleo’s prognosis is now excellent. Funding this request allowed Peak Lab Rescue to promote Cleo’s positive attributes and to cover a portion of her ownership costs to make her a more attractive candidate for adoption. Because she was a breast-cancer survivor, we knew that it would take someone special to adopt this loving, low-energy senior Labralady. And we were right! Cleo has been adopted by an amazing family and now has a 6-year-old Peak Lab brother named Sammy. Cleo’s adoption video can be found at www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lN7N9dhYqo

Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, Cleo will live happily ever after.
