How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The money goes into our bank account; it is a general fund, to be used for extended vetting (illnesses, heartworm treatment, injuries) because this is not covered under our adoption fees. Also, we rescue cats and we cannot adopt them for what it costs to vet them. We lose about $50-75 on each cat. We are grateful for the extra money to help us give each animal what they need.

It makes it possible to rescue animals from the shelter who have diagnosed medical problems. Mange is common and treatable, but it's a long process.

How many pets did this grant help?

I really could not tell you because we have one bank account, and the adoption fees do not begin to pay our expenses. We rely on donations to be able to continue to rescue.

The most recent are Brooks, Dunn, Dollie, and Reba — 4-month-old puppies who had severe mange. They were furless. It took several months in foster care with medicines to help them recover.
