Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Bubbly Buttertart is a large (71 lbs. on intake) 4-year-old male who entered our rescue on Nov. 18, 2022.

After being placed in and quickly returned from two different foster homes, he remained in a kennel in our facility until a third foster home took him on Feb. 22, 2023.

Bubbly instantly became a rockstar at this home. He interacted with and was “trained” by his 9-year-old human sibling. They had an amazing bond. Bubbly was a gentle giant with his sister.

Bubbly is also somewhat of a kleptomaniac and likes to remove loaves of bread from the kitchen and hide them around the house. His favorite hiding spot is between couch cushions. He never eats the bread, nor does he tear the plastic packaging.

On July 8, 2023, he was placed into a foster-for-keeps home that was giving him two weeks to turn from a foster into an adoptee. After two days, he was returned. Although the family had been shown many videos of Bubbly’s escapades with sandwich bread, they were not amused with his bread-stealing once he hid a loaf in a plant.

He returned to the foster home he’d had since February. The family adored Bubbly and truly wanted to adopt him. They were in the process of moving to Florida and expenses were tight. We advised them of the Kia grant program and waived Bubbly’s adoption fee utilizing the grant funds.

The fosters, now adopters, were thrilled to make Bubbly a permanent member of the family.
