Keller's Kats Rescue, Inc.: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Keller's Kats Rescue prides itself on being able to respond to urgent requests from the community to assist critically ill or injured cats. We have relationships with local shelters and veterinary hospitals that often make us their first call when a cat (or occasional dog) needs emergency care. We try to maintain a fund separate from our day-to-day accounts that allows us to respond to these calls. We applied for this grant after already taking on nine other cases that required costly surgeries and after-care. This grant gave us a bridge for the rest of 2025; we took on an additional eight cases while maintaining our emergency fund.

On June 22, 2025, Lilly Purr was found tied to a tree, with an open can of food next to her. We were contacted and immediately transported her to Ark Veterinary Hospital and Urgent Care. She delivered two healthy kittens at 7:30 a.m. without assistance.
Five hours passed and it became clear that she was struggling. An abdominal ultrasound revealed two more kittens. The staff at Ark could not provide the emergency care that she required so she was transferred to Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services. They stabilized her for the night, and the decision to perform an emergency c-section was made the next morning.
The remaining two kittens were delivered. The cost of the procedure at REVS was $2194.30.
Lilly Purr’s four kittens, Pipsqueak Von Meow, Poet, Pajamas, and Pudding Pops, have been adopted. Lilly Purr’s foster mom describes her this way: “Professional snuggler, full-time biscuit-maker, and part-time therapist for anyone who needs a purr break, Lilly Purr is the sweetest mama around — she greets everyone like an old friend, shares her purrs generously, and believes strangers are just cuddles she hasn’t collected yet.
“She’s basically a warm croissant with whiskers. Her hobbies include head-boops, politely supervising snacks, and melting hearts on contact. Warning: Side effects of meeting Lilly Purr include uncontrollable smiling and the sudden desire to tell her all your secrets. Lilly Purr would do best in a home without dogs, but other cats are okay.”
We have not found the purrfect furever home for her just yet. Meet Lilly Purr here.
